A time to be inspired

Recently, I started watched the series Once Upon A Time (I know, I know, I’m late to the party). I didn’t have high hopes, but I had some free time and it kept popping up on Netflix as recommended.  I knew it was about fairytales, but thought it would be a typical ‘fairy tale character ends up in real world’ or vice versa kind of thing and the characters would have little depth. Which, as I soon discovered, is really not the case (I’m not going into detail about the plot because I hate spoilers).

I love the way in which the history of the characters is shown, because you get to see why they act how they act and what their motivations are. These characters are interesting, not just good or evil, they have believable reasons for everything they do.

I also like how each tale is twisted to merge with another, so that even though the basis of the original tales is there, they’re combined to make something much bigger. And it got me thinking: what other paths could these tales take and what characters have never been fully explored?

There’s a lot of creative room here, and I’ve discovered that I want to explore it. At the moment, I’m exploring through poetry, but perhaps a few short stories will follow. Who knows? One thing I’m certain of, though, is that for the first time in quite a while, I feel inspired again.

And that’s a good thing.
