Poetry

Constant

We walked side by side between planets,

watched their oceans swell and fall

into stardust, theorizing how Saturn’s rings

may be its core

after its writhing energy tore out

to form its own globe.

The stars can be seen during day on Mercury,

but I can see them at any time I wish

in your eyes.

Our markers held well over the year,

the beats sounded and shook me giddy.

In the grain of that bench under the maples,

our echoes will reside forever.

Deal?

I never want you       to be anything less

than yourself around me       let yourself out fully, don’t       hold back

no matter what       tell me anything

bounce ideas off me like I’m a squash court

same with emotions: let them       out

laugh, cry, be low, be high

show me the darkness       show me the light

anything that’s on your mind, anything at all

I will always be a net to hold the rawest parts of you

Poetry

Background Noise

Wherever we walk, the world quietens.

Be it woods, coast, park or town,

filled with the trill of birds and scurry of mice,

the crash of waves and sound of holiday makers,

students taking a break after a full day of college

or families and friends out for an evening meal.

All of it dulls to subtle hum

in the wake of our path and the intricately intimate maze of our minds.

Even though we know

we have to return to the crescendo sometime,

for the hours we stand together,

peace is all there is.

Poetry

Into the fog

The fog on the bathroom mirror covers my face,

coating it in a weariness I can normally only see inside.

Droplets run down;

tears I cannot shed.

My mouth is a watery line,

anxious and unsure of who I am.

Then you come in and open the window.

The glass clears as you lean against me,

easing my expression to a soft grin

as the warmth seeping from every inch of you

fills my heart.

Poetry

Unsaid

You’ve got my back; your firm hands grip my shoulders

as I lean into you and filter the weight of the day

from my limbs to yours. Not all of it,

an even distribution so we can both still stand.

With a smile and a nod, we walk with our arms linked

and our steps synchronised, enjoying the bond

that was always a potential and has now flowered.

Words go unsaid because vocalising our thoughts

isn’t necessary — they’re in the twitch of our fingers,

the skip or slump of our feet

and the spark in both of our eyes.

Poetry

Friend

The modulation of your voice soothes the words into my mind,

gentle nudges that become understanding; a pause to let me ponder

before you begin again. No judgement, no masks, no need to block up

who I am just to stroll under the blossoms and shadows.

Comfortable in my movements when I’m beside you, my language

is easy for you to read. I might not say much, but you know I am far from silent

and pick up the waves I’m unconsciously drifting on.
